Coal Harbour: Crossing the Canal
Coal Harbour: Crossing the Canal is a young and talented ensemble combining a jazz sextet and a classical string quartet. With arrangements of both jazz and classical pieces, complemented by original compositions written by pianist Robert Koemans, they are crossing the canal between jazz music and classical music.
Percussionist Konstantyn Napolov and violist Evgeniya Peschanskaya have found an unusual combination of instruments that works magically. Their signature piece is their own award-winning arrangement of 'Siete canciones populares españolas' by De Falla and their repertoire includes works by a.o. Piazzolla and Bach.
Pianist Danielle Bourne and violinist Merel Vercammen have an impressive CV filled with prizes (a.o. the London Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition), television performances ('Jonge mensen op weg naar het concertpodium') and even lectures ('The Mozart Effect'). Characteristic is their talent for musical storytelling. Their programmes vary from fairytales to poetry and exciting stories around glamorous composers.
